Attracting fresh capital into the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) is a fundamental requirement if industry is to unlock the remaining resource of up to 20 billion barrels of oil and gas in line with the MER UK (Maximising Economic Recovery from the UKCS) Strategy. The new wave of investors demonstrates that the basin has a great deal to offer and can compete for global capital. This session considered the UK’s competitive advantage and reflected on investors’ appetite for indigenous opportunities. It explored how technical and operational initiatives, coupled with new business models, are helping to raise efficiency, enhance oil and gas recovery and reduce investment costs. The transfer of assets to an increasingly diverse range of new entrants will help drive innovation and attract further capital to the basin.
